The only major downside to the game is that instead of completing a variety of challenges to earn the main collectibles, you're stuck doing the same set of mini games with different difficulties in every world.
In some ways it's almost like a parody of a Spyro game, but in a good way. The level design is pretty nice, and it has some fun self-aware dialogue. Instead of portals, you have a single world connected by teleporters that take you to different regions, with a few levels within each world. If you've played the original Jak and Daxter, A Hero's Tail is pretty much a Spyro version of that. While it plays differently than the other PSX Spyro games, it still holds up pretty well, with decent platforming and some fun levels. It's not worth your time.Ī Hero's Tail is the final console "classic Spyro" title.
I think many consider this one the best of that series.Įnter the Dragonfly is a complete mess- it only has one world, constant framerate drops, a ton of glitches and bad level design. It also adds free-flight, which is pretty fun to mess around with and breaks up the still fairly dull combat. From what I've heard, even fans of the Legend of Spyro series typically see this one as the weakest.ĭawn of the Dragon concludes the story if you were entertained or intrigued by the previous entries. This game is also really difficult in some spots due to seemingly endless hoards in some areas and asshole level design in others.
A few new combos are added, but it gets really repetitive due to the game locking you into rooms where you have to beat all enemies to proceed. The main difference is that there is more combat and less platforming. You may or may not like it.Įternal Night is more of the same, continuing the story from A New Beginning and keeping the gameplay as it is. The story is your typical "chosen one from a prophecy" storyline, which is either good or bad depending on what you want. It ditches collecting things and free-roaming in favor of button-mashing combat and occasional platforming. Personally, it's not really anything special, but it's not a bad game. I'd personally recommend it.Ī New Beginning is a reboot, so don't be surprised by all of the new stuff. It keeps a lot of the things that made the originals good, and isn't afraid to experiment a bit with the progression style and gameplay. Many view A Hero's Tail as the best Spyro game post-original trilogy. You can definitely play through it and complete it, but you won't really have fun. Enter the Dragonfly is extremely glitchy and unfinished.
